Sparky Parkies invited to perform at Southampton University's fundraising campaign for the Institute of Medical Innovation

On Wednesday we were honoured that our Sparky Parkies choir was invited to perform at Southampton University’s fundraising campaign for the Institute for Medical Innovation held at La Mare Wine Estate .

The evening was organised to raise funds for the new building for the Institute for Medical Innovation.

At first glance, diseases such as cancer, dementia, sight loss, infection and respiratory illness may seem very different. But they all share one critical connection: the human immune system. In every case, the key to prevention or treatment lies in understanding, and carefully guiding, the immune system.

The IMI will establish a world-leading hub for medical research at University Hospital Southampton. Together with the Centre for Cancer Immunology (CCI), the Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (housed within the CCI), and the Somers Cancer Research Building, these research centres will share expertise, equipment and facilities, creating an exceptional environment for breakthroughs. - Southampton University Website

Our Sparky Parkies Choir is made up of people facing the various stages and challenges of Parkinson’s, alongside their loved ones and carers. The performance was also supported by some of our Monday Melodies volunteers.

Singing together as one was an amazing feeling. It was a night of celebration, being thankful for the music and the joy it brings to us all.

Thanks again to Southampton University for inviting us to this event. It was indeed a night where possibilities seemed to be limitless.
